“Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars” finally gets us the meat and potatoes we’ve been waiting for during the episode, “Unveil the Betrayal”, the season 5 finale. Dean May and Tara Reid are called to the principal’s office and grilled about comments made at the end of the previous episode.

Just to recap, the couple spoke in their bedroom about the nature of their relationship, which is “friends”, not life partners; or at least that’s what we heard on the microphones that the couple seems to forget are always picking up sound, no matter where they are in the compound. Is it just part of the act, or where they just on the show, thinking of it as a payday without the need to do the work?  RECAP posted below.

We’ve seen Jim and Elizabeth Carroll angry on “Marriage Boot Camp Reality Stars” but when Dean and Tara keep up the facade, despite what the Carrolls heard, Jim asks a wide-eyed Tara, “Do you think we’re fools?” It’s difficult to answer that since two scenarios are possible. Tara and Dean might be playing us all, making us think they aren’t a couple to snag headlines and scam the show, or these two need the kind of help that’s not offered in the boot camp. The video clip posted below says it all.

Dean finally explains that they’ve been “best friends for 15 years”, which he considers intimate. When we get to see Tara answering questions from the show’s producer, while she’s sober, she explained that she did the show to help Dean’s financial situation. Dean is shocked to hear that and gets angry about the abuse he’s taken from Tara when she’s had too much to drink. Think they’re on the same page? Yeah, me too.

It’s the finale of a season in which the couples have come a long way from their entrenched positions when they arrived. Toya and Mickey dealt with his lack of commitment and verbal abuse. Lisa and Adam broke the impasse in their relationship when Adam admitted his doomsday fears are unreasonable. Brittish and Lorenzo had cheating issues to work through and Michelle and Cody weathered what the Carrolls called a boot camp “divorce”. Will they all recommit to each other?

RECAP

Here’s who made it, who didn’t and what happened after filming.

  1. Tara and Dean were dismissed from the boot camp after confronted with the lies. It took a while but the couple knew the cover story was blown. Then they fought each other over why they inked a deal to stay in the first place. Tara told the “Dean needed money” story, holding to it even though he sat beside her protesting. Dean’s excuse was “I did it for her”, because apparently Tara Reid thought it was a good career move to participate in something with “marriage” in the title when she and Dean were not a romantic couple. Dean turned out to be the one the other campers comforted, knowing Tara is a bit crazy, but behind his back the guys were looking at him as if he was a bit nuts himself. What’s the real story? After filiming: Tara and Dean didn’t communicate for months but are now in touch, but the friendship is not the same. Ya’ think?
  2. Michelle and Cody somehow left the boot camps together, to keep working on the relationship, despite Michelle admitting during the lie detector test that she didn’t believe he was the one for her. She made him work for it, by showing him an empty ring box. Then she proposed a start-over strategy, introducing herself to him and asking for a date. He sank into her arms in relief, because he had already handed her the ring. Hey, whatever works, except it didn’t last for long. After filming: the two broke up and according to USMagazine.com Michelle is with golfer Mike Weir.
  3. Toya and Memphitz: This was the shocker, but not out of the blue. Toya agreed to accept Mickey’s past and his move to Los Angeles but only if she could accompany him. She presented a ring and then he crushed her by not returning the favor. He said all the right things about him loving her, but his last four years of being without a career he’s proud of dictates his move to LA, just not with her tagging along. The guy realizes he can’t be a player, and live the life he loves while being a good husband. Damn, it about killed Toya. The ladies flocked around her in sympathy. After filming: The story is no different, the two are separated  on separate coasts.
  4. Brittish and Lorenzo: He had a lot to say about her anger issues but he wanted to stay together if she could let the past be the past, a/k/a forgive him for his cheating and trust him in the future. Brittish admitted her bad behavior which arises from daddy-issue anger, and pledged to let the past go. The two professed love for each other and everyone was thrilled for them. After filming: Lorenzo still needs to play competitive basketball and got an offer from a European team. He is there, Brittish is home in St. Louis and the trust issue is back. Oy!
  5. Lisa and Adam took the path no one expected, particularly after Elizabeth Carroll told Lisa about Adam taking a woman back to the party bus, asking permission for her to come back home with him. He paid a steep price for being drunk and barely made it out of bed for the ring ceremony. Lisa decided that he’d made enough progress to admit his fears were strangling her and the relationship and presented him a ring. Adam was apologetic about the night before, but didn’t sound like a guy who was going to let up on things, yet gave Lisa a ring. After filming: Looks like things are better and the couple are still together.
